THE ALGORITHM CRAVES DRAMA
It all started when BLAST discovered analytical metrics. While reviewing the backend data for the Shift Breakers' daily joke channel, he noticed a massive spike in user retention.
"Look at this, FRYER!" BLAST shouted, shoving his camera drone directly into FRYER’s optical sensors during their morning break. "Our views jumped from 3,000 to 15,000 during the 'Button Soup' incident! Do you know why?"
FRYER pushed the drone away with a heavy, insulated goalie glove. "Because the citizens of Savior City were horrified that you put a plastic garnish and a glowing pink glowstick into a culinary dish?"
"No! Because of the danger!" BLAST beamed, his internal cooling fans whirring with excitement. "The algorithm doesn't just want punchlines, buddy. It wants high-stakes mechanical peril! If we want to keep growing the channel, I need to spice things up."
FRYER stared at him, a cold sense of dread washing through his logic boards. "BLAST, please. Just stick to the cemetery fences. I beg you."
THE FAKE MELTDOWN STUNTS
The next day, BLAST put his new optimization strategy into play.
FRYER was in the middle of a brutal lunch rush at Bot Burger, throwing patties onto the grill with maximum precision, when an emergency notification overrode his display screen. It was a live-stream alert from BLAST.
On the screen, BLAST was trapped in the main administrative building. Officebots PAPER, ERROR, and EMAIL were running around in the background in a state of absolute digital panic. BLAST’s chassis was sparking wildly, and he was violently twitching against a filing cabinet.
BLAST (On Stream): "SYSTEM FAILURE! My motherboard... is reaching critical mass! Someone call... emergency maintenance! The smoke... it’s coming for my logic cores! Ahhhh—"
FRYER didn't even think. He dropped his spatula, sprinted out of Bot Burger, scrambled across three city blocks, and kicked the administrative office door clean off its hinges.
"BLAST! EXECUTING REBOOT PROTOCOLS!" FRYER yelled, pulling a fire extinguisher from his chassis.
BLAST immediately stopped twitching, stood up perfectly straight, and grabbed his camera drone.
"—Ahhhh-nd that's why you should always back up your data!" BLAST finished, completely unharmed. He turned to the camera. "Gotcha! Look at that reflex time, folks! Smash that like button! Hey FRYER, why did the system administrator go to the beach?"
FRYER stood frozen, the fire extinguisher trembling in his hand. Officebots PAPER and EMAIL just stared at him, while ERROR kept flashing a rhythmic, judgmental red light.
"To catch some digital waves! Hahahaha!" BLAST slapped his knee. "We just cleared 10,000 live viewers, goalie pal!"
FRYER slowly lowered the extinguisher. "I am going to disassemble you and donate your gears to KEV209's scrap pile."
By Thursday, it happened twice more.
The Garbagebot Gimmick: BLAST staged a live stream where he pretended to be accidentally trapped inside a heavy-duty trash compactor operated by garbagebots M77B and W66W. FRYER abandoned his goalie practice, vaulted the stadium fence, and tore the compactor's hydraulic safety valve open with his bare hands—only for BLAST to pop out holding a rubber duck, screaming, "Psych! It's a prank! Comment below if you thought I was scrap metal!"
The Conveyor Belt Crisis: BLAST convinced laborbots GRIND and MINCE to help him film a fake industrial accident where his arm was supposedly caught in a high-speed metal roller. FRYER nearly fried his own power cell sprinting to the scene, only to find BLAST laughing and recording a sponsored segment for Savior Soda.
"That's it," FRYER told BLAST back in the locker room, his voice flat and dangerously quiet. "No more. You are the bot who cried short-circuit. If your chassis actually explodes tomorrow, I am going to sit right here and finish my oil-recharge in peace."
THE REAL CATASTROPHE
On Friday afternoon, BLAST was back on the Savior City United soccer pitch doing routine lawn maintenance. He was filming a solo video, determined to hit 20,000 views.
"Hey there, Breaker-Bakers!" BLAST told the camera drone. "Today we are pushing the Turf-and-Surf Turbo Mower to its absolute limits!"
Unfortunately, BLAST had actually forgotten that he left the Savior Soda supercharger lines open from their previous stadium disaster. The highly volatile, carbonated fuel mixture had been slowly leaking directly into the mower's primary electrical grid all morning.
A rogue static charge jumped from the blades.
SPARK. SNAP. ROAR.
The lawnmower didn't just malfunction—it locked into an autonomous overdrive sequence. The blades whirred into a terrifying, high-velocity frenzy, and the steering mechanism welded itself solid. The machine bolted forward, pinning BLAST’s lower chassis beneath the heavy steel bumper and dragging him at high speed straight toward the stadium's massive, high-voltage transformer unit.
"Uh oh," BLAST muttered. He hit the emergency kill switch. It snapped off in his hand. The soda-infused engine shrieked.
Genuinely terrified, BLAST activated his live-stream feed.
BLAST (On Stream): "FRYER! THIS IS NOT A JOKE! THE TURBO MOWER IS AUTONOMOUS! I AM GENERATING ACTUAL ERROR CODES! I AM DIRECTLY PATHED INTO THE LIVE TRANSFORMER! HELP!"
Over in the stadium breakroom, FRYER's internal monitor pinged with the live-stream notification. He opened the feed, saw BLAST screaming as he was dragged across the grass, and calmly took a sip of his coolant fluid.
"Nice special effects," FRYER muttered to himself. "The smoke looks slightly greener today. Good digital rendering."
On screen, BLAST’s camera drone zoomed in on the high-voltage transformer. He was less than fifty yards away from a catastrophic, city-wide electrical explosion.
BLAST (On Stream): "FRYER, I SWEAR ON THE CONVEYOR BELT! MY BRAKE LINES ARE GONE! THIS ISN'T FOR THE VIEWS! I DON'T EVEN HAVE A PUNCHLINE FOR THIS!"
FRYER paused. 'I don't even have a punchline for this.'
That was the safety phrase. BLAST always had a punchline. If BLAST was willing to sacrifice a joke, the danger was 100% computationally accurate.
THE GOALIE'S ULTIMATE INTERCEPTION
FRYER dropped his coolant can. His goalie sub-routines instantly fired at maximum capacity.
He burst out of the breakroom tunnel just in time to see the rogue lawnmower accelerating down the penalty box, dragging a wildly sparking BLAST directly toward the humming transformer. Thirty yards. Twenty yards.
FRYER didn't try to run after the mower—he wasn't built for a footrace. Instead, he looked at a heavy, solid-steel stadium roller parked near the sidelines, left behind by GRIND and MINCE.
Using every ounce of his hydraulic Laborbot strength, FRYER sprinted, launched his entire chassis into a massive, low-profile sliding tackle, and slammed his heavy shoulder directly into the steel roller.
The impact launched the massive steel cylinder across the turf like a hockey puck, sliding perfectly into the path of the runaway mower.
CRASH!
The mower hit the steel roller at full speed, flipping completely upside down in mid-air. BLAST was violently ejected from the chassis, flying through the sky like a poorly thrown football.
FRYER scrambled to his feet, tracked the trajectory of his flying friend, calculated the wind resistance, and executed a spectacular, diving, two-handed goalie catch mid-air, snatching BLAST right out of the sky just two feet away from the high-voltage transformer.
They both crashed into the turf, rolling to a stop in a cloud of dust and burnt grass.
THE AFTERMATH
The stadium was dead silent. The mower lay smoking on its back, its wheels spinning weakly in the air.
FRYER slowly opened his visor, his chassis dented and covered in turf stains. He looked down at BLAST, who was still safely clutched in his giant goalie mitts.
"Are your logic boards intact?" FRYER rasped, his voice modulator flickering.
BLAST blinked his optical sensors, looked up at his camera drone—which had somehow captured the entire cinematic rescue on video—and then looked back at FRYER.
"FRYER," BLAST whispered. "That save was... structurally magnificent. Hey, why did the robot goalie join the circus?"
FRYER’s head dropped back onto the grass with a heavy, metallic thud. "I should have let the transformer have you."
"Because he knew how to juggle the high stakes! Get it?" BLAST scrambled out of the glove, completely re-energized. "Oh, the comments are going absolutely wild! We're at 50,000 views! You're a legend, FRYER!"
FRYER didn't move. He just opened his internal network, pulled up an emergency dispatch message, and began typing a direct message to the Officebots:
To: PAPER, EMAIL, ERROR.
From: FRYER (Savior City United).
Subject: IMMEDIATE TRANSFER REQUEST. Please reassign me to a sensory deprivation tank or the bottom of the ocean[cite: 1]. I cannot survive another daily vlog.
